Stuart has been Director of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society since 2001. He has a varied and extensive role in promoting the Society around the world, developing the membership and running Mackintosh Queen’s Cross as a quality events space and visitor centre. He oversees the production of the Society’s annual Journal and along with colleagues arranges a programme of both incoming and outgoing tours for both study and general interest of places associated with Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries.
Stuart has become a respected voice in the preservation and promotion of Mackintosh internationally. He regularly provides information and articles for television, radio, newspapers and magazines and has given presentations on Mackintosh all over the UK, Isle of Man and the USA.
Major past initiatives included overseeing the £1m refurbishment and development of Mackintosh Queen’s Cross in 2006.
Stuart was Chair of the Mackintosh Heritage Group for nine years. Past successes included the Legacy Leaflet, Mackintosh Trail Ticket, the Mackintosh website and the Mackintosh Festival.
In the last few years the Society completed the Mackintosh Buildings Survey (MBS) report. This was the first ever comprehensive assessment of the Mackintosh built heritage to establish its current status from ‘good condition’ through to ‘in need of immediate repairs’ and to provide recommendations for future action.
In the year we celebrate the 120th anniversary of Mackintosh Queen’s Cross we are delighted to host a number of special events during the year.
Stuart is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
