A closing date has been set for the sale of a landmark Scottish city building by world-renowned designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Glasgow City Council is selling the A-listed Martyrs’ School, completed in 1898, which was most recently used as offices.
Graham + Sibbald said that “internally there is a number of architectural features unique to Rennie Mackintosh”.
Martyrs’ School is named after Church of Scotland Covenanters executed in 1684.
Terry McFarlane, Graham + Sibbald director, said: “Following a successful marketing, a closing date for bids has been set for 20 March.”
The agent said earlier: “Graham + Sibbald, acting jointly with our client City Property (Glasgow), are pleased to offer for sale, the former Martyrs’ School on Parson Street.”
The agent added: “Designed by world-renowned architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, this building represents an opportunity to secure a part of Glasgow’s architectural history.
“The property is a category A-listed stand-alone red sandstone building, most recently used as office accommodation, which extends to some 11,000 square feet, over three floors.
“The building would be suited for continued office use, or conversion to residential.”
Stuart Robertson, a director of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society, described the Martyrs’ School as “an important building”.
